Trenton Advances Three Individuals, One Relay To State

The Trenton High School track and field teams were in Richmond on Saturday for the Class 3, Sectional 4 Track Meet. Trenton was able to send six athletes in three events to state from the sectional meet, all on the girls’ side.
LADY BULLDOGS
The Lady Bulldogs advanced three individuals and one relay team to state. Mason Hooyman led Trenton’s individual qualifiers, tying for third in the pole vault with a mark of 8-6. Trenton’s other two individual state qualifiers were Salem Croy and Sidney Lynch, both in the javelin. Neither had to compete at districts or sectionals to advance in that event. For the javelin, the top 16 throws in the state from before districts advance. Croy and Lynch both ranked in the top 16.
On the track, Trenton’s 4×400-meter relay team of Hooyman, Thelma Guerrero, Shayla Woodside and Tenna Roberts advanced. The team placed third in the event, finishing with a time of 4:15.3.
Other Lady Bulldogs in action at sectionals, who missed top-four finishes to advance to state included Maycie Mayfield, sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 7-6; Ally Ockenfels, sixth in the shot put with a throw of 37-5; Woodside, seventh in the long jump with a mark of 13-11; the 4×800-meter relay team of Tenna Roberts, Hannah Mehrhoff, Abbie Shuler and Jessi Westcott, seventh with a time of 11:03.24; the 4×200-meter relay team of Guerrero, Roberts, Hooyman and Shuler, eighth with a time of 1:53.44; and Croy, eighth in the discus with a throw of 92-5.
The Lady Bulldogs collected 22 points in the team standings, placing 11th overall out of 21 girls’ teams represented.
BULLDOGS
The Trenton boys were unable to advance anyone to state, but had a pair of close calls with Jadan Whitney in the shot put and the 4×100-meter relay team. Whitney placed fifth in the shot with a throw of 45-4.5, just over a foot behind the fourth-place finisher and final state qualifier for the event. Trenton’s 4×100-meter relay team of Travis Leeper, Jonathan Lamp, Wyatt Whittle and Trey Shields was just a half second behind the fourth-place team in their event, placing fifth with a time of 45.02.
Other Bulldogs in action included Whitney, sixth in the discus with a throw of 131-3; Austin Burkeybile, sixth in the long jump with a mark of 19-3; and Leeper, seventh in the long jump with a leap of 18-11.5.
Trenton collected 16 points in the team standings, placing the Bulldogs 13th out of 22 schools that were represented.
UP NEXT
Trenton’s state qualifiers will be in action at the MSHSAA Class 3 Track and Field Championships at Pete Adkins Stadium at Jefferson City High School this weekend. The championships begin on Friday at 9:30 a.m. and continue Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
