Edna “Fern” Eckert, a 96-year-old resident of Laredo, died on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25 2016 at Lindley Funeral Home in Laredo. Burial will be in the Richardson Cemetery at Laredo.
A family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the funeral home. General visitation is under way.
Mrs. Eckert was born on Feb. 19, 1920 in Arnett, OK, the daughter of Robert Milton and Edna Maria Lilly Holden. The family moved to Chula in the fall of 1933. She was a 1938 graduate of Chula High School.
She was married on April 8, 1939 at Chillicothe to Charles Eckert, who preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 1980. They spent their first few years on a farm east of Chula, then moved in the fall of 1957 to Laredo, where they were members of the Laredo Christian Church. She worked at Indian Hills Nursing Home as a laundry assistant for many years.
Survivors include one son, Charles Ray Eckert and his wife, Wanda of Laredo; four grandchildren, Kevin Eckert and his wife, Patty of Laredo, Jason Eckert and his wife Heather of Laredo, Bryan Eckert and his wife, Jamie of Milan and Tina Eckert of Chillicothe; and 10 great-grandchildren, Derek, Austin, Kia Ray, Clinton, Allisa, Shelby, Brandon, Jillian, Darien and Jaydan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; two sons, Melvin and Lyle Eckert; one daughter, Carolyn Van Camp; and two brothers, Harvey and Robert Holden.
