Laredo Water, Sewer Rates Going Up

May 10, 2016 | Headline News

Water and sewer rates in the city of Laredo will be going up due to expenses involving mandatory updates to the water tower and lagoon.
During a meeting on May 5, the Laredo Board of Aldermen voted to increase the rates effective with the May billing. City Clerk Ashley Boren said the base rate for water is going up $7 to $24 while the rate for sewer is going up $3 to $18. Mrs. Boren said the changes are to the minimum base amount and that the per gallon price for usage will remain the same.
An ordinance regulating open burning was also approved. The ordinance prohibits the burning of garbage, tires, fabric, furniture and other kinds of waste, but does allow the burning of residential yard waste such as leaves and brush from vegetation grown on a residential property. Burning is allowed between the hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. during four weeks per year. The weeks include a two-week period from the first Saturday in April and a two-week period starting the third Saturday in October. Burning outside these specified times may be permitted with board approval.
The next meeting of the Laredo Board of Aldermen is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14.
