Tennis Team Scores Road Win In Lexington

The Trenton High School tennis team was in action on the road on Wednesday, traveling to Lexington for a dual with the Wentworth Military Academy. Trenton took eight of nine matches contested at the dual to win.
Jacob Davis, Nick Shields and Kade Ockenfels all picked up convincing wins at the top of singles’ play. Davis won 8-2 at number one, Shields won 8-1 at number two and Ockenfels shut out his opponent, winning 8-0.
Creed Houghton was upended at number four, falling 8-3, but that would be the Bulldogs’ only loss of the day. Wyatt Neal and Dylan May closed out singles play with wins of 8-2 each.
In doubles’ action, Davis and Ockenfels won 8-2, Shields and Houghton won 8-4 and Neal and May combined for an 8-2 win.
With the win, Trenton moved to 4-6 in duals on the season. Wentworth fell to 1-8 overall.
JUNIOR VARSITY
Trenton’s junior varsity split with Wentworth, winning one of two doubles’ matches played. CJ Sibbit and Zack Maberry won 6-4, while Colten Hamilton and Weston Otto lost 6-3.
UP NEXT
Trenton’s tennis team will return to the courts today, traveling to Cameron for a dual with the Dragons at 4 o’clock. The Bulldogs will be in St. Joseph Friday, competing in the Benton Tournament. First serves for that event are scheduled for 9 a.m.
