Grundy Teams Run At HDC Track Meet

The HDC Conference high school and junior high school track meets were held on Monday at South Harrison High School in Bethany. The Grundy R-5 teams were in action, winning the junior high girls meet with 114 points. Grundy’s high school girls were sixth with 40 points, the high school boys were fifth with 34 points and the junior high boys were ninth with one point.
The junior high Lady Panthers won seven events at the meet with Brianna Carpio winning the 100-meter dash, Aubrey Gann winning the 800-meter run, Jandie Peterson winning the long jump and Lael Rolen winning the high jump. Grundy won the three junior high relays as well with Rolen, Carpio, Gann and Anna Milazzo combining to win the 4×100-meter relay; Rolen, Peterson, Gann and Milazzo winning the 4×200-meter relay; and Rolen, Carpio, Abby Webb and Kyra Burns winning the 4×400-meter relay.
Other medalists for Grundy’s junior high girls included Peterson, second in the 400-meter dash and third in the 75-meter hurdles; Carpio, second in the long jump; Gann, second in the triple jump; and Milazzo, second in the high jump.
At the high school level, Grundy had four medalists on the girls’ side and four on the boys. For the Lady Panthers, the 4×400-meter relay team of Emma Novak, Emma Baxter, Alissa Webb and Mayce Axtell was first. Matana Munday was runner-up in both the shot put and the discus and the 4×800-meter relay team of Novak, Baxter, Webb and Axtell finished third.
The Panthers medaled in all four relay events at the high school boys meet. The 4×800-meter team of Brady Huffman, Wayne Baxter, Lane Kenley and Jonathan Stimpson finished second to lead the Panthers. The 4×100-meter relay team of Huffman, Baxter, Stimpson and Seth Riddle was third; the 4×200-meter relay team of Huffman, Kenley, Riddle and Baxter was third; and the 4×400-meter relay team of Huffman, Kenley, Riddle and Stimpson was third as well.
In the team standings, Newtown-Harris followed the Grundy junior high girls with 75 points and North Harrison rounded out the top three with 47 points. The junior high boys meet was won by Pattonsburg with 154 points while Winston (62) and Newtown-Harris (43) rounded out the top three.
At the high school level, Mercer won the girls meet with 125 points, topping second-place Winston’s mark of 102 points. North Harrison had 82 points to place third.
The boys high school meet was won by Winston with 164 points. Newtown-Harris was second with 103 points and East Harrison was third with 60.
