NCMC Dual Credit Program Gets Accreditation

May 3, 2016 | Headline News

The National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships has officially announced its granting of national accreditation to North Central Missouri College’s Dual Credit Program.
NCMC’s Dual Credit Program provides college credit-bearing courses across the 16-county service area to high school students taught by college-approved high school instructors. NACEP’s recognition of NCMC’s Dual Credit Program as one of only 98 accredited concurrent enrollment programs from colleges and universities nationwide shows a proven commitment to quality and excellence in the courses provided for dual credit.
As the only set of national quality standards applicable to concurrent enrollment (dual credit) partnerships, NACEP’s standards serve as the model benchmark for ensuring that the course content and rigor for student work in high schools match the standards of the sponsoring college or university. To earn NACEP accreditation, NCMC’s Dual Credit Program had to meet 17 standards in order to apply. Once approved, NCMC completed a rigorous peer-review process that consisted of submitting a self-study application covering the seventeen standards along with supportive evidence to a committee of NACEP accreditation reviewers. The recommendation of the review committee was then taken to the NACEP Accreditation Commission who voted in April to award accreditation to NCMC’s Dual Credit Program.
“I’m very pleased to recognize the Dual Credit Program at North Central Missouri College as one of a select group of 98 concurrent enrollment partnerships nationwide accredited through NACEP’s extensive peer-review process,” NACEP Accreditation Commission Chairman Jaclyn Dumond said. “North Central Missouri College has demonstrated to its peers that the college courses it offers in high schools are of the same high quality as college courses offered on campus.”
“At NCMC we pride ourselves in offering quality courses at an affordable price,” NCMC Coordinator of Academic Support Programs Whitney Trump, who oversees the NCMC Dual Credit Program said. “Being awarded NACEP Accreditation for our Dual Credit Program proves that our dual credit students are receiving quality dual credit courses that provide them the same experience and level of rigor that they will see as they transition into college. Our dual credit courses are taught by area dual credit high school instructors who provide their students with a high level of expertise and dedication. By receiving accreditation for NCMC’s Dual Credit Program, we can take pride in the nationally-recognized quality of instruction available to the students in our service region.”
Dr. Jamie Hooyman, NCMC’s Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness, expanded on the importance of taking dual credit courses from an accredited program.
“The vision of NCMC is to optimize learning,” Dr. Hooyman said. “Providing the highest level of rigor and relevance in all of our courses is essential to achieve this. Being recognized by NACEP as an institution which upholds the highest level of excellence in dual credit solidifies that not only does NCMC strive to be the best, but we are succeeding and being recognized nationally as an institution of excellence. We are very proud of our program, the instructors, and the ability to bring quality college courses to the area high school students so they can get a head start on achieving their dreams.”
