The city of Trenton and Grundy County, in conjunction with the North Missouri Solid Waste Management District Region B, are sponsoring a solid waste collection event in Trenton on Saturday, April 30.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at 807 E. Seventh St., the site of the former Maggie’s Mess and Mullins Farm Supply. The collection is a residential collection only and no business or commercial disposals will be allowed. There will be volunteers at the site to assist with the drop off of disposable items.
Several items that are banned from disposal in landfills will be collected on that day, including tires, appliances, electronics, batteries, ink cartridges, paints, oils, etc. There is a charge for some of the items, while others will be able to be disposed of at no cost.
Tires cannot be on a rim and must be clean and free of debris. Fees for disposal include $2 each for standard passenger tires (or small), $6 for oversized tires (36-inches or more) and $20 each for tractor tires.
Appliances that will be collected include washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, ranges, ovens, microwaves, freezers, refrigerators, air conditioners and hot water heaters. A fee of $5 will be charged for each appliance. Refrigerants will be removed by a certified technician prior to disposal.
Electronics, such as computer systems (keyboards, mouse, etc), as well as copy machines, printers and fax machines will be collected for a $5 fee. The fee for televisions will be $10.
All electronic waste will be demanufactured and recycled and all hard drives will be destroyed.
Paint, oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, aerosols, herbicides, pesticides and household chemicals will be collected for a free-will donation. Household hazardous waste must be in the original container and not leaking.
Collected at no cost will be stereos, scrap metal, household batteries, rechargeable batteries, cell phones, intact batteries and ink cartridges.

In addition, the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring its annual Communitywide Cleanup April 25-30.
The community is encouraged to clean up around their homes and neighborhoods during that week. Activities such as picking up trash, mowing lawns, picking weeds and planting flowers can be accomplished during this week. Several organizations have agreed to clean up many of the main thoroughfares in the community, with members of the Trenton Ambassadors and Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors assigned to Ninth Street. That clean-up will take place on Wednesday, April 27.
Also as part of the week’s activities, a communitywide garage sale is planned for April 30. Persons wanting to be included in the listing of sales that will take place on that day are asked to stop by the Trenton Republican-Times and place their advertising. The cost to have the sale listed in both the newspaper (for three days) the April 27 Green Hills Weekly is $9.50 for up to 15 words. More than 15 words is 40 cents per word. To be included in both publications, persons must submit their garage sale no later than Wednesday, April 20.
