NCMC Drops Doubleheader

The North Central Missouri College baseball team was swept on the road on Thursday, falling 3-1 and 9-7 to Crowder College in Neosho.
The Pirates outhit Crowder in game one, 5-4, but the Pirates only managed one run in the loss. That came on a sacrifice fly by Smith Kemper that scored Rubiangelo Mingeli in the fourth inning.
Anferney Hoeve (1-6) took the loss, despite a solid outing. He allowed just three runs, two earned, on four hits and four walks while striking out six in six innings of work.
In game two, the two teams traded single runs in the first inning and the game remained tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the fourth when Crowder went up 2-1. Crowder added three runs in the fifth, stretching the lead to 5-1. The Pirates rallied late, scoring four runs in the seventh and two in the top of the h to go up 7-5. North Central couldn’t hold the lead, however as Crowder plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth. NCMC managed two baserunners in the ninth with two outs, but couldn’t score either, falling by two runs.
Derek Hussey, Mingeli and Landon Figg all had two hits each in game two, with Hussey scoring three times and Mingeli driving in two and scoring another. Figg had one RBI as did Kemper, Jared Corbett and Zach Lehmann.
On the hill, Kylan Easley (1-5) took the loss. He allowed the four runs in the eighth, despite none of them being earned, as the Pirates burned themselves with errors. Easley allowed one hit, two walks and struck out one in his lone inning of work. Maverich Lourens started, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits and three walks while striking out one in four and one-third innings.
The Pirates dropped to 6-31 on the season. NCMC will look to avenge the losses when Crowder comes to Trenton on Saturday. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
