The Trenton High School track and field teams were in action on Friday afternoon, traveling to Chillicothe for the Joe Shy Relays. Trenton placed third in the girls’ standings with 88 team points while the Trenton boys placed sixth with 40 points.
A total of 16 schools competed at the event with Chillicothe winning both the boys (201) and girls (147) titles. Lawson (122.5) was second in the girls standings, while Maryville (85.66) took second in the boys’ standings.
Lady Bulldogs
Of the 88 points the Lady Bulldogs scored, 30 of them came from first-place finishes as Trenton won three gold medals. Ally Ockenfels made her return to competition and won the shot put with a throw of 35-8 and Mason Hooyman continued a strong season in the pole vault, collecting another gold medal after clearing 8-7. Trenton’s final gold medal came in the final event of the meet where the Lady Bulldogs team of Whitley Richman, Tenna Roberts, Shayla Woodside and Thelma Guerrero won the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:35.37.
Other top-three finishers for Trenton at the meet included Roberts, who was second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.16 and third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.1; Salem Croy, who was second in the javelin throw with a distance of 87-0; Richman, who was third in the high jump with a mark of 4-10; Maycie Mayfield, who was third in the pole vault with a mark of 7-6; and the 4×200-meter relay team of Guerrero, Hooyman, Roberts and Abbie Shuler, which was third with a time of 1:58.97.
Bulldogs
The Trenton boys leaned on the strength of its relay teams to pick up points. Trenton was third in the 4×100-, 4×200- and 4×400-meter relays. Austin Burkeybile, Jonathan Lamp, Wyatt Whittle, and Trey Shields combined to take third in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 46.74 and the same four were third in the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:38.01. In the 4×400-meter relay, Whittle, Jeffrey White, Lamp and Shields combined to place third with a time of 3:45.76.
Individually, Lamp picked up a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 23.7 and Avery Cooksey was fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5-6.
