The Trenton Fire Tax was approved by voters in the city of Trenton, who also elected three new members to the city council. Meanwhile, there are two new members on the Trenton R-9 Board of Education while a new member will join an incumbent on the Grundy County Nursing Home Board of Directors.
The fire tax won approval by a vote of 628 to 417. That means a one-quarter of 1 percent sales tax will be assessed, beginning on July 1, to help pay for operations of the Trenton Fire Department.
Elected to the Trenton City Council were Brad Chumbley in ward two (143 votes), David Mlika in ward three (116 votes) and Scott Blair in ward four (166 votes). Allan Quilty was re-elected as the ward one councilman, being unopposed and receiving 194 votes.
In the four-way race for Trenton R-9 Board of Education, Brooke McAtee and Dorothy Taul won the two open seats on the board with 713 and 562 votes respectively. Third place went to Corey Leeper with 560 votes and Bob Gass collected 404.
Sherry Knapp is the new member of the Grundy County Nursing Home Board of Directors with 976 votes. Jim Cox, the incumbent, received 929 votes and will also serve another term on the board. A third candidate, Richard Powers, received 388 votes.
A complete wrap up of the election will appear in Wednesday’s Trenton Republican-Times.
