Editor’s Note: There are three candidates seeking the second ward Trenton City Council seat, subject to the April 5 election. To provide information about each candidate, the Republican-Times asked those individuals to fill out a brief questionnaire, which includes their background and why they are candidates for the board. Responses from Brad Chumbley and Michael Harkins appear below. Jeff “Bud” Wilson did not respond.

Brad Chumbley of 211 E. 28th St. is seeking his first term as a second ward councilman on the Trenton City Council.
Why are you seeking this position (include any concerns you may have and any changes you might be thinking of making to the office)?
I am seeking office to move the town forward with common sense ideas and solutions. My concerns are jobs, taxes, utilities, infrastructure and staying within a budget. As a council and as a town, we need to find a way to make it affordable to live here and attract new business while supporting the ones we have now.
What is your background for this position (any job or training you have had in regard to the office you are seeking)?
I have worked at ConAgra for 25 years. During that time I was union steward as well as vice president and president over a 13-year period. My wife and I have operated a business in the downtown area for the last five years.
Personal information (immediate family members, spouse and children, connection to the community- are you a native and/or a THS graduate; education background, community service, etc).
My wife, Patricia, and I have three children and make Trenton our home. I have lived here most of my life and am a graduate of Trenton High School.

Michael Harkins of 300 W. Crowder Road is a second-time candidate for second ward councilman on the Trenton City Council.
Why are you seeking this position (include any concerns you may have and any changes you might be thinking of making to the office)?
I want to be active and serve the community in which I live. The city faces employment and economic challenges. Supporting local businesses and attracting new business will be important issues in the future.
What is your background for this position (any job or training you have had in regard to the office you are seeking).
I was a self-employed homebuilder in Arizona for 25 years and have been employed by ConAgra since 2009.
Personal information (immediate family members – spouse and children, connection to community- are you a native and/or THS graduate, education background community service etc).
I am a 1984 graduate of Trenton High School and attended Mesa Community College in Mesa, AZ. I have a 12-year-old daughter, Chloe.
