The Building and Nuisance Board of the Trenton City Council met on Monday night, taking action on several items.
On votes of 4-0, the board declared nuisances on property at 402 W. 12th St. and 1109 Merrill St., owned by Clarence Leonard; 802 E. 24th St., owned by Larry Johnson; 1314 Norton St., owned by Bret and Penny Buswell; 1323 Merrill St., owned by Laura Pino; and 208 E. 10th St. (the former American Legion Building), owned by Scott Weldon. These properties will have a public hearing next month.
Public hearings were held on properties at 507 Main St., owned by Dan Johnson; 1904 Lulu St., owned by David Robinson; and 2211 Oak St., owned by Leroy Burkeybile. Johnson appeared at the meeting and said he had plans to fix up the structure on the property, however Code Officer Donnie Vandevender said he felt the structure should be torn down. Johnson is to meet with Vandevender to discuss options. The daughter of the owner of 1904 Lulu St. also appeared and had several questions answered regarding the property, on which a burned structure is located. All three properties receiving a public hearing will now move on to what is called “findings of fact” under the city code.
A findings of fact hearing was held on property at 111 W. 11th St., owned by Tammy Posey. It will have a certificate of dangerous building filed on it if nothing is done to the property by March 30.
The board voted to remove the existence of dangerous building designation from the title on property at 120 Highland St. Vandevender also said a change of ownership will now force the nuisance process to begin again on property at 1922 Oak St., which had a certificate of dangerous building filed on it.
Vandevender announced that Red Rock will be in town next week to begin the process of demolishing several properties on the city’s demolition list. He also presented a list of properties for the board to consider as 2016-17 demolition projects.
Four properties are to be placed on the list to begin the process of declaring them a nuisance. They include 843 W. 14th Court, owned by Bryan Babb; 1109 E. 12th St., owned by Robert Ellis; 1101 Shanklin Ave. (the old MFA building), owned by Earl Nance; and 1922 Oak St., now owned by Benjamin Williams.
