Grundy County Emergency Management will be hosting an amateur radio course coming up on April 16 and 23.
According to Grundy County Emergency Manage-ment Director Glen Briggs, Amateur radio operators play a vital role in our emergency management team by playing roles as storm spotters, Helping with fairs and festivals, or by helping when communications systems are overloaded or disabled. This course will teach you the basics of how to become an amateur radio “Ham” radio operator.
Anyone is welcome to take the course, While the course itself is free, there are some minor costs involved. Participants need to purchase a study guide which costs around $22 and there is a fee of around $15 to take the FCC exam at the end of the course. Self-study is vital to passing this test, those planning on taking the course will need to spend the weeks leading up to the course reviewing the study guide on their own.
