A Tina man was injured when the sport utility vehicle he was driving was struck from behind by a semi Tuesday evening on Highway 65, about one mile north of Chillicothe.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report, the mishap was investigated by Cpl. J.A. Pithan and occurred when the SUV, driven by Lloyd E. Dewey of Tina, was slowing down to turn left into a private drive. The semi, driven by James A. Carver of Galt, struck the SUV from behind, causing it to skid across the roadway and come to rest off the west side of the road. The semi came to rest partially off the east side of the road, partially blocking the northbound lane of Highway 65.
Dewey, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained moderate injuries and was taken by Chillicothe EMS to Hedrick Medical Center. His vehicle was totaled, while the semi sustained minor damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Cpl. Pithan was assisted by Trooper B.N. Rainey, Trooper J.C. Gilliland, CVO S.R. Dye and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department.
