The annual Trenton Winter Sports Banquet was held Thursday night where athletes from the basketball, wrestling, cheerleading and mascot teams were honored for their contributions. The night started with a banquet before basketball and cheerleaders were recognized in the THS commons, while wrestlers and mascots were honored in the TMS commons.
Girls Basketball
The Trenton girls enjoyed a banner season that saw the Lady Bulldogs run a 21-6 record and reach the district finals for the first time in a decade. The 21 wins marked the third most in a single season in THS history and the Lady Bulldogs also collected a Gallatin Tournament championship to go with the runner-up finish in the district tournament and third-place finishes in the Lawson and Hamilton Tournaments.
Whitley Richman received the Most Outstanding Player Award, an award voted on by her teammates. Richman averaged team-highs with 13.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. She was the Gallatin Tournament MVP, named to the Lawson All-Tournament Team and voted all-district by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association.
Other team voted awards included the Most Dedicated Player Award, which went to Ainsley Tolson, who was also a Lawson All-Tournament selection and a MBCA all-district pick. Lexie Tolson won the Defensive Award, Mykah Hurley received the Most Improved Award and Lexie Tolson, Daryian Otto and Ally Ockenfels all three received Coaches Awards. Otto and Lexie Tolson were also both Lions Club All-Star selections.
Other players recognized included Gallatin All-Tournament team selection Salem Croy, Sidney Lynch, Taylor Richman, Maycie Mayfield, Saedee Jackson, Jaylen Neff, Lana Raymo and Ashten Whitaker. Managers Tessa Schlatter and Tyler Kidd were also recognized.
Boys Basketball
The Trenton boys ran a 13-11 record this season, taking second in the Gallatin Tournament and third in both the Lawson and Hamilton Tournaments.
Cree Mullenix and Brice Dillon tied for the team’s Free Throw Award and were both also Lions Club All-Star selections. Mullenix was also a Gallatin All-Tournament Team selection, KKWK All-Star and MBCA All-District pick. Spencer Harris won the Three-Point Award and the Scoring Award. He was a Lawson and Gallatin All-Tournament Team selection to go with an all-district honor as well. Corbyn Guile won the team’s Assist Award and was the Most Improved Player of the Year. Connor Cotton received the Rebound Award and Kail McCarter got the Hustle Award.
Other players honored included Hunter Dugan, Dylan Harris, Braughn Hursh, Max McNabb, Kade Ockenfels, Mason Radcliff, Lathan Croy, Colton Ellis, Isaac Harris, Jarren King, Alex Parrack, Isaiah Renshaw, Matthew Sibbit, Colton Neff, Carson Radcliff and Cole Schilling. Managers Laura Carlson, Tucker Franklin, Hannah Kennebeck and Jordain Oshel were also recognized.
Wrestling
The Trenton wrestling team went 9-12 in duals this season, taking third at the Lexington Dual Tournament, fourth at the Grand River Conference Tournament and fifth at the Plattsburg Tournament.
Trenton sent five wrestlers to state in Drew Rorebeck, Brenden Johnson, Wynne DeVorss, Tyler Sayre and Jadan Whitney. Rorebeck led the Bulldogs at state, collecting a fifth-place medal.
Season best awards went to Rorebeck for having a 50-6 record, 73 takedowns and 23 pins. Tommy Johnston had 39 escapes to lead the team and Eric Lovett led the Bulldogs with 27 near falls and 39 reversals. DeVorss and Eric Lovett each tied Rorebeck with 23 pins on the season.
Other wrestlers recognized included Lucas Clark, Justin Martin, Trey Shields, Jeffrey White, Cole Little, Mason Owen, Tyler Warner, Daniel Rodriguez, Nick Shields and Nick Wattenbarger. Managers Werthen Gass, Kaitlyn Mounce and Jessi Westcott were also recognized.
Cheerleaders and Mascots
Trenton cheerleaders honored included senior captain Karley McCollum, junior captain Karli Crawford, Mason Hooyman, Emma Norris, Kayley Griffin, Thelma Guerrero, Brandi Eaton, Cassidy Trump, Abbie Shuler and Sarah Jordan.
Mascots recognized on the night included Haley Reighard, Jonathan Schlared, Phillip Drennon, Cody Garcia, Jordan Admire and Curtis Reighard.
