As has been the case this season, NCMC was again on the losing end, falling 4-0 in five innings at home on Burleigh Grimes Field in Trenton on Saturday.
McHenry started the scoring with a single run in the top of the second, drawing a bases-loaded walk on four pitches to force home a run. That would be all the scoring done until the fifth inning, which turned out to be the final frame. McHenry picked up three more runs on a three-run home run to push the advantage to 4-0. The Pirates went quietly in the bottom of the frame with two groundouts and a strikeout. The rain followed and that would be North Central’s only action of the day.
The Pirates had runners on third and second in the fourth with two outs, but were unable to force home a run. NCMC also had runners at the corners with two outs in the third inning, but again were denied a mark on the scoreboard. The Pirates had three hits and three walks in the game.
Gordon Arthaud (0-2) took the loss on the hill, allowing one run on two hits and five walks in three innings of work. Arthaud struck out five as well. Drew Bunch worked the final two frames, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one.
With the loss, NCMC fell to 0-13 on the season. The Pirates will attempt to right the ship on Tuesday, traveling to Lexington to take on Wentworth Military Academy. The scheduled doubleheader will begin with game one at 1 p.m.
