The Backpack Buddies program, which provides elementary- and middle school-aged children with food on the weekends, is in need of additonal funds to help reach its goal for the current school year.
Program coordinator Ginny Wikoff said that 142 students are being served by six schools in the county and that based on the yearly cost of $150 per student, another $8,000 is needed to help meet the $21,300 goal to completely pay for the program. School districts participating in the program include Trenton R-9 (Rissler Elementary and TMS), Pleasant View R-6, Grundy R-5 at Humphreys, Laredo R-7 and Spickard R-2.
A chili supper fundraiser for the program is scheduled for Saturday, March 26 at the First Christian Church Family Activity Center. The eat-what-you-want, pay-what-you want event is sponsored by the North Missouri Emergency Services and will beheld from 5 to 7 p.m.
Persons who would like to make a donation of any size are asked to contact Ms. Wikoff at 359-5071.
