Ardella Hamed Peterson, a 94-year-old resident of Olin, IA, died on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at the Anamosa Care Center following a short illness.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, 2016 at the Lahey Funeral Home in Olin. Pastor Barb Krueger will officiate. Burial will be in the Olin Cemetery.
A family visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Peterson was born on Jan. 4, 1922 in Fayette, IA, the daughter of Samuel and Sheriffe Jabara Hamed. She worked at Century Engineering during World War II, manufacturing aerial bomb fuses. After marrying Leo Peterson in McGregor, IA on Dec. 20, 1947, the couple were in the restaurant business for five years. She worked for Lawson Insurance for a number of years and worked at the U.S. Post Office for 27 years, retiring in 1986 as postmaster. She was a member of the Morley Methodist Church and the Olin chapter of Pythian Sisters.
She was an exceptional seamstress and enjoyed golf, bridge and fishing. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling with her husband.
She is survived by two children, Linda Kennebeck and her husband, Bill of Trenton and Jim Peterson and his wife, Diana of Monticello, IA; three grandchildren, Jennifer Ross and her husband, Jason of Jensen Beach, FL, Gina Hiler and her husband, Gary of Marion, IA and John Kennebeck and his wife, Jennifer of Trenton; six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Grace and Ella Kennebeck, Jordan Ross and Mason and Logan Hiler; two sisters, Amy Smelroth of Cedar Rapids, IA and Doris Hamad of Bloomfield, MI; and one brother, Bob Hamed of Lakewood, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and two brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Jones Medical Regional Rehab and the Morley United Methodist Church.
