North Central Missouri College recently hosted area high school students for Math Explorations Day.
The NCMC Math Department invited juniors and seniors from area high schools who are interested in math, technology and science to participate in various activities, demonstrations and competitions. Guest engineers from Honeywell Corporation of Kansas City helped students build functioning windmills.
This year, four high schools participated: Brookfield High School, Grundy R-5 High School, Princeton High School, and Stewartsville High School. The Team Competition winner was Princeton High School, with members Eric Hernan-dez, Joshua Schoonover and Jacob Schwenneker. Individ-ual Problem Solving winners were Jacob Schwenneker, Princeton High School, first; Austin Libeer, Brookfield High School, second place; and Chase Baker, Brookfield High School, third place.
“The purpose of this day on campus is to support students interested in studying math, technology and science.” stated Mrs. Lola Swint, NCMC Math Depart-ment Chair. “They get a chance to meet and visit with each other and faculty and staff at NCMC. We also provide information and encouragement as they make decisions about college and career goals,”
Other math, science and technology faculty involved included Tracy Welch, Traci Norris, Beth Caldarello, Susan Stull, Annette Pool, Brooke McAtee and Cory Cooksey.
