The Mercer Lady Cardinals keep rolling toward the end of the season with their undefeated record intact. On Friday night in Milan Mercer struck its latest victory, this one at the expense of the Lady Wildcats.
Mercer dominated the game from the onset, taking a 26-1 lead in the first quarter. Mercer would outscore Milan 18-8 in the second quarter and 18-7 in the third quarter before coasting through the fourth for their 22nd win of the season.
Nicole Kost and Bailey Owens each scored 20 points to pace the Lady Cardinals (22-0) with Owens adding six rebounds and two steals and Kost finishing with eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists. Breanna Main added 10 points Lindsay Wyatt had seven points, seven assists and four steals and Emily Sample finished with seven points and six rebounds.
Mercer Boys 73
Milan Boys 51

The Mercer boys completed the sweep of Milan, picking up a win over Milan as well. Mercer outscored the home team in all four quarters, cruising to the non-conference win.
Galt Porter, Alec Patterson and Trey Wilson all scored 14 points and Cash Hartley and Bryer Noe each put in 13 for a balanced scoring attack from the Cardinals (17-4).
Both Mercer teams will be on the road in Gilman City tonight for a pair of HDC Conference games. Tip time is set for 6 o’clock.
Grundy R-5 Girls 54
Winston Girls 51

The Grundy R-5 Lady Panthers scored a big win on Friday night at home, defeating Winston. Grundy used a 23-12 first-quarter run to build an early lead, but Winston rallied in the second with a 19-5 run to take a 31-28 halftime lead. Grundy answered in the third quarter, retaking the lead with a 17-10 run. The Lady Panthers then weathered a good Winston effort in the fourth quarter, hanging on for the three-point win.
Abby Wells had 16 points, six rebounds, seven assists and five steals to lead the Lady Panthers (15-7). Matana Munday added 12 points and 20 rebounds and Emily Milazzo finished with nine points, six rebounds and four assists. Zoe Littleton and Roni Busick finished with eight and seven points respectively.
Winston Boys 62
Grundy R-5 Boys 20

The Grundy R-5 boys were dealt a loss by Winston, falling behind 34-3 in the opening quarter and never recovering. Winston held the advantage through the final three quarters, holding Grundy to just 17 points the rest of the way.
Grundy (5-16) was led by six points and 10 rebounds from Isaac Chamberlin and Brady Huffman had four points and 12 rebounds. Bryson Gann puled down six rebounds in the loss.
Both Grundy teams will be in Jamesport tonight, taking on Tri-County at 6 o’clock.
Gilman City Girls 53
Pattonsburg Girls 23

The Gilman City girls put on a defensive show against Pattonsburg on Friday night at home, limiting the visitors to eight points or fewer in each quarter. Offensively, Gilman City consistently scored 13 to 14 points in each frame, coasting past the Lady Panthers for the win.
“Our team defense was much better this game,” Lady Hawks’ Head Coach Adam Clark said. “We were able to control the rebounds at both ends and our offense shot pretty well throughout the night.”
Hailey Burrows led Gilman (14-6) with 17 points and four steals. Joslyn Newton had eight points and eight rebounds and Morgan Hightree had eight points and two assists. Gilman City also got seven points, nine rebounds and four assists from Darriane Carey and six points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals from Saige Holmes.
“Every player contributed in multiple ways,” Clark said. “Saige and Darriane had several rebounds and assists. Joslyn and Haize (Wilson) also rebounded well. It was nice to see the girls put four good quarters of basketball together.”
Pattonsburg Boys 51
Gilman City Boys 34

The Gilman City boys were unable to follow suit, dropping their home match-up with Pattonsburg. Gilman struggled early, trailing 12-4 after a quarter of play and 31-15 at halftime. Gilman was able to keep pace in the second half, but the damage was done as the Hawks fell by 17 points.
Cornelius Peery scored nine points to lead Gilman City (7-13) and Shane Arnold had eight. Mitchell Sievering added seven points and Kaleb Bjornlie finished with six.
Gilman City’s teams are home tonight, taking on Mercer at 6 o’clock.
Braymer Boys 60
Princeton Boys 46

The Princeton boys couldn’t quite hang with Braymer on Friday night, falling by 14 points at home. The Tigers kept things close for three quarters, trailing 18-15 after the first quarter and leading 30-28 at halftime. Princeton maintained its two-point edge through the third quarter, but in the fourth Braymer retook the lead. Princeton was forced to foul down the stretch and Braymer connected on 12-of-16 fourth quarter free throws to pull away for the victory.
Princeton (13-9) was led by 20 points from Stephan Elliott. Blaine Millburn and Andrew Smith each added six points and Logan Dunkin and Hunter Boxley each finished with five.
No information was available from the Princeton-Braymer girls game as of press time.
Both Princeton squads travel to Gallatin tonight for a Grand River Conference doubleheader at 6 o’clock.
