Free Blood Pressure, AFIB Checks

Feb 9, 2016 | Headline News

The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women is a national movement to end heart disease and stroke in women. In fact, more women than men die every year from heart disease and stroke. The good news is that 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented with education and lifestyle changes.
In observance of National Heart Month during the month of February, Wright Memorial Hospital, in partnership with the Muriel I. Kauffman Women’s Heart Center, will be offering free walk-in blood pressure checks and AFIB (atrial fibrillation) screenings. The screenings and blood pressure checks will take place two times during February – Friday, Feb. 19 in the Physicians’ Group and Monday, Feb. 22 in the speciality clinic. On those days, the screenings will be available from 8 to 10 a.m. Testing should take no more than a couple of minutes, and will be as easy as placing a couple of fingers on a smart device or tablet.
“Based on the Women’s Heart Center’s 20 years of community experience, we wanted to give back to the communities we serve by providing the tools and resources to address a couple of important risk factors, blood pressure and AFIB,” said Marcia L. McCoy, R.N., M.S.N. and director of the Muriel I. Kauffman Women’s Heart Center. “Our goal is to provide engaging tools to transition ownership of blood pressure control to the consumer, our employees and the community. Wright Memorial Hospital is a great partner in our efforts.”
Please note this program is for screening only. The person performing the test cannot give advice or diagnosis. If a screening does not meet the pre-defined parameters, persons will be encouraged to contact their primary care provider.
Wright Memorial Hospital is located at 191 Iowa Blvd. in Trenton. For additional information, persons can call 660-358-5750.
