Choosing Selective Traffic Enforcement Streets

Jan 26, 2016 | Headline News

Ever wonder where our Selective Traffic Enforcement streets selections come from?
“In order to obtain our Selective Enforcement Streets list, we look to statistics from the previous year,” Police Chief Tommy Wright said. “We analyze vehicle crash data as well as enforcement activities. Once the data is analyzed we develop a list of Top 10 streets that need an additional amount of officer presence and enforcement actions based on those numbers.”
Each week (except for snowy weather weeks), the police department chooses three streets on which to conduct traffic enforcement detail. The first and second streets picked are always reserved for specific citizen complaints. For instance, if a person contacts the department and request his or her street put on the list, the police will place it on the selective enforcement street list for that week. The third street is reserved for one of the streets from the Top 10 list. If there are no community requested streets, then the police choose all three slots for Top 10 streets.
“Choosing our selective traffic enforcement streets in this manner ensures our responsiveness to community needs while also utilizing data to help us deploy our enforcement activities more effectively and efficiently,” Wright said.
Here are the Top 10 streets the Trenton Police Department will be concentrating on for 2016:
1. 15th Street; 2. East 10th Street; 3. East Ninth Street; 4. Oklahoma Avenue; 5. Crowder Road; 6. Main Street; 7. Lulu Street; 8. East 17th Street; 9. Highway 6; and 10. Princeton Road.
