The owner of Trenton Abstract and Title Company presented the program at Thursday’s Trenton Rotary Club meeting. Sara Ohlberg was the program chairman.
Lisa Dowell told about the business, which she purchased in 2005. She has six such businesses involving abstracting work in seven counties of north Missouri. They are located in Trenton, Chillicothe, Gallatin, Cameron, Brookfield and Hamilton. Joyce Bramblett is the office manager at Trenton.
Ms. Dowell talked about the importance of title insurance in regard to the sale of property. Because of the large amount of research that needs to be done to make sure there is a clear title when a property is sold, the insurance provides coverage in the case of issues that may come up in the process. She said her company goes back 45 years in their research, looking for things that could affect the sale closing.
Ms. Dowell also talked about having Grundy County abstracts saved by both Elizabeth Linker, who previously owned Trenton Abstract, as well as the late Carolyn Whitney, who owned Best Abstract and Title Company. She said those abstracts provide a good history of property sold within the county.
During the business meeting, it was announced that the Trenton’s Got Talent fundraiser has been tentatively set for Saturday, April 23. Local Rotarians have been invited to attend a fundraiser on Feb. 13, sponsored by the KCI Rotary Club.
The North Missouri Business Consortium will be the topic of next week’s program.
