Grundy R-5 Girls 39
The Mercer girls scored a big win in their Milan Tournament opener on Monday night, defeating the Grundy R-5 Lady Panthers. Mercer took a 21-10 first-quarter lead and stretched the advantage to 44-17 by halftime. Mercer was on cruise control in the second half, outscoring Grundy in both the third and fourth quarters, pulling away for the 37-point victory.
Mercer (10-0) was paced by Bailey Owens, who had 37 points in the win. Lindsay Wyatt added 17 and Nicole Kost finished with 12. For Grundy (7-4), Zoe Littleton showed the way with 13 points. Matana Munday added nine points and eight rebounds, Emily Milazzo had six points and Abby Wells finished with five assists and three steals.
Mercer will take on Novinger in their second pool-play game on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Grundy R-5’s girls take on Novinger tonight at 5:45.

Green City Boys 50
The Mercer boys also got the Milan Tournament started off on the right foot, defeating Green City in their first game. Mercer grabbed a slim 17-14 lead in the first quarter behind 10 points from Galt Porter. The Cardinals tacked on three more points to the lead, going into the break up 33-27. Mercer took command of the game in the third quarter with a 26-13 run and then shut the door in the fourth with a 14-10 run to close the game.
Porter and Cash Hartley each scored 16 points in the win to pace the Cardinals (9-1). Alec Patterson had 13 points, Trey Wilson had 11 and Bryer Noe and Grey Porter each scored six. Mercer also got four points from Hunter Shipley and one from Larramie Moore.
Mercer takes on the host school, Milan, Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.
South Harrison Girls 61
Princeton Girls 42
The Princeton Lady Tigers were dealt an opening-round loss at the South Harrison Tournament by the host school. The Lady Tigers fell behind 23-6 in the opening frame and never recovered as South Harrison cruised to the 19-point victory.
Payton Goodin led the Lady Tigers (4-7) with a team-high 17 points. Haley Johnson added nine for Princeton and Maddie Enright and Vivian Allen scored four points each.
Princeton will be back on the floor in Bethany on Wednesday, taking on the loser of tonight’s Northeast Nodaway-Putnam County quarterfinal game. The consolation semifinal on Wednesday is scheduled for 6 p.m.

NE Nodaway Boys 42
The Princeton boys were victorious in their opening game at the South Harrison Tournament, defeating Northeast Nodaway by 10 points.
The Tigers jumped out to a dominating 15-2 lead in the first quarter, but Northeast Nodaway answered with a 22-7 run in the second quarter, putting Princeton down by two at the break. The Tigers regained their footing in the second half, outscoring Northeast Nodaway 18-8 in the third quarter and 12-10 in the fourth.
Princeton (5-6) was led by Stephen Elliott, who had 13 points. Logan Dunkin added 12 points, Hunter Boxley had 10 and Blaine Millburn finished with nine. The Tigers also got four points each from Calvin Berwanger and Cameron Jones.
Princeton, which is in the pool-play portion of the tournament bracket, will take on Putnam County on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Princeton girls were defeated in a low-scoring Grand River Conference game on Friday night in Maysville. The Lady Tigers were narrowly outscored by the home team in the first three quarters, leading to a seven-point loss.
Enright and Dakota Buttrey scored nine points each to pace Princeton in the loss.

The Princeton boys also found themselves in a close conference game, but turned the tide, giving Princeton a split with Maysville.
Elliott led the Tigers with 22 points and Dunkin scored 10 in the win.

Albany Girls 13
The Gilman City girls stepped out of conference and scored a big win over Albany on Friday night on the road. Gilman established a 15-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, pulling away throughout the night for the 36-point win.
Saige Holmes had 17 points, seven steals and five rebounds to pace Gilman (8-3). Hailey Burrows added 14 points, five rebounds and four steals and added three blocked shots. Darriane Carey had 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

The Gilman City boys were handed a road loss on Friday night in Albany. The Warriors led 14-6 after the first quarter and 33-15 at halftime before coasting through the second half.
The Hawks (3-8) were led by Cornelius Peery, who had 15 points. Skylar Reynolds had 12 points and Riley Holmes scored 10.
Both Gilman City squads return to action tonight, playing host to Tri-County in an HDC Conference doubleheader that tips off at 6 o’clock.
North Harrison Girls 61
Tri-County Girls 17
The Tri-County girls dropped an HDC Conference game on Friday night, falling to North Harrison on the road in Eagleville.
Tanna Courter led the Lady Mustangs (0-9) with eight points and Jadan Almond finished with seven.
North Harrison Boys 38
Tri-County Boys 22
The Tri-County boys grabbed a 14-4 lead on North Harrison in the opening quarter, but it wouldn’t last as the Mustangs were outscored 34-8 the rest of the way as North Harrison took the game by 16 points.
Tri-County (0-9) was led by Jeran Critten, who had eight points. Lance Cook added seven.
