Long-time Mercer County Sheriff Duane Hobbs of Princeton has been appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon as the new Mercer County Presiding Commissioner.
The position became vacant upon the death of the previous presiding commissioner, Jim Mason.
A native of Mercer County, Hobbs served as the elected county sheriff for 24 years from 1985 to 2008. Since that time, he has operated Hobbs Custom Mowing in Princeton. Hobbs is a Democrat.
“Over decades of public service, Duane Hobbs earned the trust of the people of Mercer County, and they showed that trust by electing him as sheriff for six terms,” Gov. Nixon said. “I am confident he will again ably serve the people of this county as the Presiding Commissioner. I also want to thank the family of Jim Mason for his service to the citizens of Mercer County.”
