Daniel Edward Sullivan, a 57-year-old resident of Jefferson City, died on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2015 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City with Rev. Russell Bowder officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.
A family visitation will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the service.
Mr. Sullivan was born on Nov. 15, 1958, in Hannibal, the son of the late Joseph Edward and Vinita Ann Tawney Sullivan. He also lived in Perry for four years. He was a 1977 graduate of Trenton High School, and went on to attend Trenton Junior College, Truman State University and University of Central Missouri. He obtained a master’s of science degree in psychology. He was married on Sept. 6, 1986 to Lori Ann Culp, who survives at their home.
Mr. Sullivan had a 30-year career as a psychologist and counselor at Fulton State Hospital, working at all levels of security.
He especially liked to travel with family and friends. He also liked to fish, hunt mushrooms and play golf. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City, where he served as an usher. He was a former member of the Jefferson City Jaycees.
Mr. Sullivan liked to tell the story that at the time of his birth, he and his mother were fighting for their lives and both nearly died. God stepped in and provided life for both. He served God in many ways, most notably by taking care of the mentally ill. He felt blessed by having such a close family growing up. Additionally, he was blessed with a loving wife and daughter. He didn’t think of himself as a “great man,” but rather a “good man.” It’s sad for him to depart from his family and friends, but will now move up to the next level.
Along with his wife Lori, he is also survived by a daughter, Hannah Kathryn Sullivan of the home, who is 17 years old and a junior at Jefferson City High School; two sisters, Jodee Fredrick of Liberty and Kathy Pickett of Columbia; three sisters-in-law: Louise Bird (Bruce), Linda (Ronnie) Wintjen and Sue (Glen) Linton; three brothers-in-law: Gary (Linda) Culp and Ralph (Carol) Culp of Hannibal and James (Angie) Culp of Mobile, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews, with whom he was very close.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul’s Church Cemetery Fund in care of Judy Couch, 300 S. Smith St., Center, MO 63436.
Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Directors of Jefferson City.
