In B game action Trenton fell 38-7 in the girls’ game and 45-18 in the boys’ game.
Lady Bulldogs
The Trenton girls were in position for a win to close the season for much of the first three quarters, but the Lady Bulldogs got into foul trouble late and Brookfield was able to steal the victory.
Lexi Whitaker paced the Lady Bulldogs with seven points and Maci Moore finished with six. Trenton also got five points from Haley Kidd.
“It was a very close game,” Lady Bulldogs’ Head Coach Mitchell Holder said. “Brookfield has an excellent team and they finished their season undefeated. We were in control of the game through three quarters but foul trouble caught up to us and ultimately hurt us in the end. I’m extremely proud of this group of girls. They worked hard and played as a team. We have a fun four years ahead of us watching them play basketball in high school.”
With the loss, Trenton’s A girls finished the season with a 10-2 record.
In the girls’ B game Trenton was tied at 4-4 after a quarter of play and trailed just 10-5 at halftime. In the second half, however, Brookfield outscored the Lady Bulldogs 28-2, pulling away for the big win.
Olivia Roberts led the B girls with four points, Ann Airey added two and Maci Moore rounded out the team total with one.
The loss gave the B girls a final record of 1-7 on the season.
Bulldogs
Trenton’s A boys closed the season on a high note, taking their match-up with Brookfield by 12 points. Trenton took a 10-5 first quarter lead and held a seven-point advantage at halftime. The Bulldogs met every challenge Brookfield threw at them in the second half, picking up the win.
Carson Burchett led Trenton with 25 points and Dalton Burchett finished with seven.
“It was great to finish with a win, but the more important thing with this group was they got better each game,” Bulldogs’ Head Coach Joel Hultman said. “I stressed that we wanted to play our best basketball toward the end of the season and that is what we did. I’m really proud of these players. They have fun, want to compete and want to do it all as a team. I look forward to all they accomplish in the next four years in the classroom, on the court and in the community.”
Trenton’s B boys team was unable to follow suit, falling 45-18. Trenton trailed 10-0 out of the gates and 25-4 at halftime. Trenton was better in the second half, but still not good enough as Brookfield cruised to the win.
Gavin Roeder led the Bulldogs with five points and Joey Lynch finished with four. Camdyn Leeper, Chase Otto, Owen Brown and Cole Soptic all had two points each and Luca Nichols’ one point rounded out the team total.
With the loss, Trenton’s B boys finished the season with a 1-8 record.
