As final plans are made for the 11th annual High School Holiday Hoops, event sponsors report that not just basketball will be enjoyed during the event, but lots of special entertainment will be featured as well.
On Saturday, Dec 19, which is being promoted as Military Appreciation Day, all veterans will be admitted free of charge throughout the day. In addition, at halftime of the Trenton-St. Joseph Lafayette girls game at 5:30 p.m., the THS Colorguard will perform. Their special tribute at this time will be a tribute to the military and all veterans.
On Tuesday, Dec. 22, the THS Colorguard will present a second special performance at the halftime of the Trenton-St. Joseph Benton girls game. This game is scheduled for tipoff at 7 p.m.
The Milan High School Topcats will be halftime performers on Monday, Dec. 28 during the Milan-Southwest Livingston County boys game, scheduled to tip off at noon.
On Wednesday, Dec 30, the Carrollton High School Spirit Dancers will perform at the halftime of both Carrollton-Putnam County games. Those contests are scheduled to tip off at 7 and 8:30 p.m.
Hoops Director Steve Maxey expressed appreciation to these groups and encouraged others to participate, if not this year, then in future years saying it brings pride to the outstanding fine arts groups in the area high schools as well as one more way to provide a complete package of entertainment for the fans.
Other special events are being planned and will be announced as respective dates and details are complete.
The 11th annual High School Holiday Hoops begins on Friday night, Dec 18 with three games scheduled. Mound City Panthers will take on the Green City Gophers at 5:30 and 7 p.m. in girls and boys action followed by a battle between the Trenton and Maryville boys’ teams at 8:30 p.m.
