Robert Wimer Gives Rotary Program

Dec 11, 2015 | Headline News

Robert Wimer discussed his fundraising efforts for the Green Hills Animal Shelter during a meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club on Thursday. Elizabeth Gibson was the program chairman.
Wimer, who works at the shelter, is also a talented singer and has combined that talent with his love of animals to raise money to help fund the shelter. “Under the Overpass” consists of Wimer singing one song a day for one year at the Highway 6 and 65 overpass, recording that song and putting it on You Tube and other social media. While the project began as a way for him to deal with the death of a dog at the shelter, a suggestion by a friend turned it into the fundraiser. A GoFundMe page has been set up for persons to make donations as part of this project, with a goal of $50,000 before the project concludes next August.
Wimer, who began the project on Aug. 17 of this year, sings all types of songs – opera, rock, hymns, etc – and even takes requests. There is no particular time of day in which he does the singing, having sung early in the morning and late at night. He said he tries to avoid high-traffic times, such as noon and around 5 p.m., when persons are headed home from work.
He concluded the program by singing “O, Holy Night.”
Next week’s meeting will be the club Christmas party at 6 p.m. in the family activity center of the First Christian Church.
