Richard Paul Strong, a 73-year-old resident of Gilman City, died at 4:17 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza in Kansas City.
The body was cremated. Graveside services with military rights will be held at a later date at Springer Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 at Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mr. Strong was born on Feb. 25, 1942 in Marshalltown, IA to Lloyd Henry and Isyla Marie Weber Strong. After high school he joined the Navy and served on board the U.S.S. Coral Sea from 1960-1964.
He was married on Jan. 4, 1965 in Stillwell, OK to Mellanie Roberts, who survives of the home.
He enjoyed trap shooting, going to bird dog trials and shows, fishing and spending time with his family. He was also a member of the IBEW Local 124.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert Earl Strong and his fiance, Krista Burnett of Gilman City; a daughter, Joy Stotts and her husband, Jack of Trenton; two brothers, Lloyd Strong of the state of California and Denny Strong and his wife, Mary of Shawnee Mission, KS; three sisters, Annette Strong of McClouth, KS, Janette Strong of Oskaloosa, KS and Marlene Clevenger and her husband, Jo of Shawnee, KS; grandchildren, Jadeth McCloud of Topeka, KS, Jacen Stotts, Jory Stotts, Jia Stotts and Jemma Stotts, all of Trenton and Hayley Burnett and Jake Burnett of Gilman City; several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a stillborn son, Aaron Strong.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Springer Cemetery or the American Cancer Society and can be left with or mailed to the funeral home at 813 Custer, Trenton, MO 64683.
