Craig Lewis, a junior at Winston High School, was selected to be a part of the National 19-and-Under Men’s Fastpitch Softball Team.
At age 16, Lewis is the youngest member of the team and is listed as an alternate at this time. He will travel and train with the team over the next year in California, Ohio and Illinois in preparation for the World Tournament, which will be held in Midland, MI in late July 2016. Should a spot open on the 17-man roster, Lewis hopes to be ready.
This past season for Winston, Lewis had a record of 15-1 with 161 strikeouts and only 18 hits allowed. He had a batting average of .638, going 30-for-47. In his career with the Redbirds, Lewis is 46-4 in the circle with 382 strikeouts and 124 hits allowed. His career batting average is .553, having gone 84-for-152 at the plate.
This the first time since 1985 that the tournament has been played in the United States. The tournament is played every two years with the last two being held in Canada and Argentina.
