Paul Koon, an 88-year-old lifelong resident of the Fairview Community, died on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015 at the Saint Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza in Kansas City.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015 at the Fairview Methodist Church, north of Galt. Pastor Richard Smith officiated.
Laurel Berry was the pianist. Music included the congregation singing “In the Garden” and “Blessed Assurance.”
Pallbearers were Dustin Koon, Nathan Koon, Anthony Rassel, Darrel Cunningham, Darrel Edgar Cunningham and Terry Rains.
Jason Koon and Patrick Koon were honorary pallbearers.
Burial was in the Berry Cemetery, following military rites by the Joseph. L. Norton VFW Post No. 919 of Trenton. Participating were Bud Hawes, Lannie Harkins and Charlie Davidson.
Mr. Koon was born on July 19, 1927 in Grundy County, the son of Ralph and Beulah Han Koon. He graduated from Galt High School and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He graduated from Trenton Junior College, where he was valedictorian of his class.
He was married on March 25, 1950 to Mildred Davis, who preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 1981. He was married on Jan. 2, 1983 to Gloria Smith Cunningham. He farmed in the Fairview Community all of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Koon of the home; two sons, Rob Koon and his wife, Regina of Trenton and David Koon and his wife, Tammy of Republic; a daughter, Patti Koon of Lake Wittona; a step-daughter, Sharon Rassel and her husband, Scott of Wichita, KS; nine grandchildren, Dustin and Nathan Koon, Anthony Rassel and Jason, Kyle, Patrick, Kathryn, Aurelia and Gabrielle Koon; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Dale Koon.
