Lady Pirates
The North Central women fell behind 21-15 in the first quarter and would trail 40-31 at halftime. Southwestern opened the second half with a 27-16 run that all but finished the Lady Pirates.
Siera Glassford led the way for NCMC, scoring 13 points. McKinley Hurley had 11 points and five rebounds for the Lady Pirates and Maggie Graves finished with 10 points and six rebounds in the loss.
With the loss, the Lady Pirates’ third in a row, NCMC fell to 2-7 overall on the season.
Pirates
The North Central men found themselves in a closer contest, but still were unable to return home with a win, falling by five points in the end.
“I felt like we battled well,” Pirates’ Head Coach Steve Richman said in spite of the loss. “It was your typical road situation, but our guys played hard the whole night. (Southwestern) came out shooting pretty well in the second half. They are a good team, but I am proud of the way we hung in there with them on the road.”
North Central was led by Xavier Parkman, who had 17 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Terrance Bush was right behind his teammate with 16 points and D’Tavian Walker added a double-double, scoring 14 points to go with 10 rebounds. Brandon Stapleton and Caleb Berry rounded out the Pirates’ double-digit scorers, each finishing with 11 points.
The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the North Central men, dropping their overall record on the season back to .500 at 4-4.
NCMC will have their chance at revenge as both squads turn around and host Southwestern Community College in their next games. The Lady Pirates and Pirates will host SWCC at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton on Tuesday, Dec. 1. The women’s game tips off at 5:30 p.m. with the men following at 7:30.
