Grundy R-5 District Improves Showing On Annual Review, Sets Graduation Date

The Grundy R-5 School District improved its showing on the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Annual Performance Review, according to information shared with the board during a meeting on Thursday evening.
According to information provided by Superintendent Rob Deaver, the district earned 135.5 points out of 140 possible points for a score of 96.8 percent of the points possible. That is an improvement over past years as the district earned 95.4 percent in 2013 and 92.4 percent in 2014.
Board members also set the filing dates for the April 4 Election as Dec. 15, 2015 through Jan. 19, 2016. The three-year term of Randy Radcliff will expire and a person will also be elected to fill a vacancy, previously held by Melody Shipley, with that term also being three years. Those wishing to file for a seat on the board may do so at the school in Galt during normal school hours.
Board members also set the graduation date for 2 p.m., Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the high school in Galt and approved a co-op request for junior high boys and girls basketball from the Newtown-Harris School District for 2016-2017.
Faculty reports were given in the areas of kindergarten, K-12 music and K-12 art and board members approved the evaluations for the health services, homeless/migrant and facilities and grounds programs.
Elementary Principal Dr. Anne Billington said year-to-date attendance at the elementary school in Humphreys is 98.12 percent. She reviewed several activities including a field trip to Crowder Park for grades kindergarten through 1, the Veteran’s Day assembly and the fall party. She provided a list of upcoming events and activities and recognized several individuals and organizations for donations or various contributions to the school building including the VFW, Greg Coon, the Galt Lions Club, Lu Littleton and Hy-Vee.
In his report, Secondary Principal Randy Huffman said year-to-date attendance in grades seven through 12 is 96.78 percent. He recognized all-conference softball players, students who have placed in FFA events, barnwarming royalty, students of the quarter, students who had perfect attendance for the first quarter, the junior high basketball teams and discussed seventh and eighth grade Stanford 10 testing. He recognized Mady Williams for being the Hugh O’Brien Leadership Seminar selection and Zoe Littleton for being selected to attend the Missouri Leadership Seminar.
In other business, the board reviewed and approved several new board policies and updates and discussed maintenance items, including guttering and sidewalk repairs.
A closed session was held to discuss student matters, with no announcement made.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at the high school in Galt.
