The Grundy R-5 Junior High basketball teams opened play in the Mercer Tournament on Monday night. Grundy’s girls were split into two squads with the ‘Black’ team defeating Gilman City 44-2 and the ‘White’ team losing 16-14 to East Harrison. The Grundy boys, meanwhile, topped North Harrison 50-10.
For the girls’ ‘Black’ team, Aubrey Gann and Alissa Webb each scored 10 points. The Grundy boys were paced by NaVontae Rainey, who scored 21 points, and Wayne Baxter and Andrew Garcia finished with 14 and 10 points respectively.
