TMS Science Teacher Earns Honor

Nov 9, 2015 | Headline News

Chrystal Mayfield, seventh grade science instructor at Trenton Middle School, has received the Science Teachers of Missouri Excellence in Middle School Teaching Award for 2015.
Mrs. Mayfield was recognized for her ability to “go above and beyond” in the middle school classroom. Recipients of the award must have taught science for at least four years. According to STOM, Mrs. Mayfield has created a unique style of teaching she calls “controlled chaos,” which combines different research-based techniques, including cooperative learning, inquiry-based learning and differential instruction. She engages her students by allowing them to track their own learning goals and participate in multiple hands-on learning experiences which result in students being highly engaged and more likely to retain information from year to year.
Mrs. Mayfield will receive a small cash prize, complimentary materials from CPO Science and complimentary registration to the 2015 National Science Teachers Association Conference in Kansas City, where she will receive her award on Dec. 3.
