The Grundy R-5 Junior High School basketball teams were in action on Thursday and Saturday at the Tri-County Tournament in Jamesport. The Lady Panthers scored a 35-12 win over Plattsburg in the semifinals on Thursday before falling 34-26 in Saturday’s championship game against Mercer. The R-5 boys, meanwhile, lost 52-37 to Pattonsburg on Thursday in the semifinals and then fell 47-43 in the third-place game on Saturday against Plattsburg.
For the Lady Panthers, Aubrey Gann had 12 points in the semifinals and Alissa Webb added 10 points. Anna Milazzo added five steals for the Lady Panthers. Saturday, Gann had 16 points and eight steals in the title game. The Grundy boys were paced by Andrew Garcia on Thursday as he scored a game-high 22 points. Saturday, Navonte Rainey scored 23 points with Wayne Baxter adding 14 points and six steals.
