Trenton city and Grundy County Rural firefighters responded to a fire at the Rapid Removal transfer station in the industrial park north of Trenton early this morning. According to Trenton Fire Lt. Mike Moore, the call came in at 5 a.m. and when firefighters arrived there was heavy smoke coming from the front of the transfer building. The fire was located in a trailer in the lower level of the building. Trash in the trailer as well as a tire on the trailer were burning and the fire was brought under control by 5:20 a.m. A wrecker was used to pull the truck and trailer unit from the building. There was moderate damage to the trailer unit and smoke damage throughout the building including a skid loader, backhoe and other equipment located on the upper level of the structure. Moore said the cause of the fire was undetermined.
