Lawson scored first and took an 8-0 lead after a two-point conversion, but Trenton got on the board with a seven-yard touchdown run by Jeffrey White in the first quarter. Trenton failed on the two-point try, however, and the 8-6 Lawson lead would hold through halftime.
In the second half, Trenton got back in the end zone, scoring on a six-yard touchdown run by quarterback Hunter Dugan early in the third quarter. This time, Trenton converted on the two-point try, taking a 14-8 lead. Lawson would answer on the following drive, matching Trenton’s touchdown, tying the game at 14-14. Lawson booted an extra point following this score, going ahead 15-14.
Trenton would have the last say in this game, however, as the Bulldogs put the ball in the end zone one final time with a 40-yard touchdown run by Lucas Clark with five minutes left in the game. Trenton punched in the two-point try to take a 22-15 lead. Trenton’s defense then took over, stopping Lawson and getting the ball back with two minutes to play. Trenton was able to effectively run out the clock and seal the victory, the JV unit’s fourth of the season.
With the win, Trenton improved to 4-4 in JV contests on the season.
The Bulldogs will look to push their record over .500 on the season next Monday as they play host to Marceline’s JV at C.F. Russell Stadium in Trenton. That game will close out the junior varsity portion of the season for Trenton and is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
