The Trenton Middle School football team was dealt a home loss on Thursday night, falling 30-12 to Milan on the gridiron at C.F. Russell Stadium.
Milan jumped out to an early lead when Ryan Dabney hit Dom Dabney on a 44-yard touchdown pass and the Wildcats went up 8-0 with a Dre Morehead run on the two-point conversion. Trenton would answer the score with a 71-yard run in the second quarter from Jose Velazquez. Trenton failed on the two-point try, however, and trailed 8-6. Milan tacked on another touchdown just before halftime as Ryan Dabney ran the ball in from 14 yards out. Morehead made good on his second two-point run of the night and the Bulldogs trailed 16-6 at the break.
Milan poured it on in the third quarter, scoring two more times to push the lead to 30-6. Ryan Dabney hooked up with Cody McClaren on a 40-yard pass for the first score and Kaleb Weaver ran the ball in from 25 yards out for the second. Milan converted one-of-two third quarter two-point tries, scoring on a Ryan Dabney run.
Trenton got in the end zone once in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs fell by 18 points. Jaren Whitney scored on a one-yard run and Trenton failed on the two-point try again, leaving the Bulldogs with 12 points.
With the loss, the middle schoolers fell to 3-2 on the season. Trenton will look to bounce back on Tuesday as they close the season playing for the Sugar Bucket at Chillicothe. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Jerry Litton Stadium.
