A veterans service officer will be available in Trenton on Friday, Oct. 2 to assist with VA paperwork.
The officer will be at the Hy-Vee in Trenton from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a change in the date that was previously provided to the Republican-Times.
During these times, veterans can bring any military paperwork they may have with which they need help. In addition, a veterans center counselor will be present to provide help to veterans and families of active military. The counselor will be there beginning at 10 a.m. and stay until all persons needing assistance have been seen.
Veterans are also reminded of the shuttle service available to those needing rides to their VA appointments. To schedule a ride, veterans should call 359-2078. Calls for rides should be made as soon as an appointment is received as rides are given on a first come-first serve basis. Persons will need to leave their full name, their telephone number, the date and time of the appointments and the number of riders. If a confirmation call is not received, persons need to call back.
There is a $10 fee being charged each direction for persons using the shuttle. However, no veteran will be turned away for their inability to pay. Any donation would be appreciated. The money is being used to provide some compensation for shuttle drivers.
