The Spickard R-2 Board of Education met on Monday night, hearing an accountability update and discussing vacancies on the board.
Superintendent Burnie Schneiderheinze presented the accountability update, which shows the district will continue to fall under the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education status of a “focus school” for the current school year. However, improvements have been shown over the last three years compared to the baseline year of 2012.
The board is seeking two candidates to fill vacancies created by resignations. Qualified patrons of the Spickard R-3 District interested in filling those positions can call the school at 485-6121.
Approval was given to allow a student field trip to Papa Charlie’s Pumpkin Patch in October. Bids are to be taken for a short 10-foot to 15-foot retaining wall. The board discussed, but took no action, on hiring an additional paraprofessional as well as the school basketball program. Two board members will be attending the MSBA Conference later this year. An executive session for personnel and a student matter was held with no announcement made.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 19.
