Princeton Board Hears Building Updates

An update on building improvements and approval of several items highlighted the meeting of the Princeton R-5 Board of Education on Monday night.
During a work session held prior to the meeting, board members met with the CTS group and HTK architects to develop a plan of action to deal with facility concerns within the district. CTS is to return for a meeting with the board on Sept. 28 to present options for the board to consider. Depending on the needs of the district, the board may consider approaching voters with a bond issue in April.
During the regular board meeting, members received an update from CTS regarding work done over the summer at the Stacy Multipurpose Center as well as the high school. Flooring is to be laid at the Stacy Center in mid-October, depending on the lead time of the center logo and completion of the basketball hoop. The high school roof work is projected to take place in September after being pushed back due to weather.
The board approved bus routes for the 2015-16 school year as well as a request from the senior class for an open lunch hour. High School Principal Tammy Miller presented a report on the school ACT results from the past year.
Superintendent Jerry Girdner presented a proposal from the company, Cell Tower Solutions, to identify activity at cell sites and how they may impact value of the locations. CTS will submit all sites to the Mercer County appraisal department for billing approval. The board requested more information in regard to the cost to the school district.
It was reported that the first quarter mid-term is Sept. 21, which will also be a day for no classes due to a teacher in-service. The Calamity Jane Day tractor parade will be traveling through the elementary school parking lot on Sept. 18 for the elementary students to enjoy. The elementary school had 275 grandparents attend Grandparents Day activities at the school.
An executive session was held for personnel, No announcement was made.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 12.
