Richman, Tolson Power Trenton Offense In 6-1 Road Victory

Sep 15, 2015 | Softball, Sports & Recreation

The Trenton High School softball team picked up another victory on Monday, going on the road and defeating the Plattsburg Lady Tigers 6-1.
Plattsburg struck first in the contest, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a walk, stolen base and Trenton error. The lead stood until the top of the fourth when Trenton put together a rally.
Ainsley Tolson led off the inning with a double and fellow freshman Salem Croy followed, reaching on an error. Whitley Richman then doubled to deep right-center field to score both Trenton runners. Richman would later advance to third on a ground out and score on a passed ball to put the Lady Bulldogs in front 3-1.
Richman would ignite the offense again in the sixth inning, doubling to right field again and scoring when Daryian Otto reached on an error. The Lady Bulldogs plated two more runs in the seventh inning with Jaylen Neff reaching on an error and Tolson following with an RBI single. Croy followed, scoring Tolson with an RBI single of her own.
Tolson finished three-for-four with a run, steal and RBI and Richman was two-for-four with two runs and two RBIs. Croy, Mykah Hurley and Taylor Richman added one hit each.
Otto picked up the win in the circle, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out nine.
“Plattsburg is an improved team from where they have been,” Trenton Head Coach John Cowling said. “Their pitcher did a good job keeping us off balance all game. Ainsley and Whitley both had big nights to lead our offense and Daryian settled down the last half of the game.”
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 9-1 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs will be on the diamond again tonight, traveling to Lathrop for a match-up with the Lady Mules. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
A pair of middle school softball games were played between Trenton and Plattsburg on Monday night. Trenton swept the middle school set with a 26-0 win in the A game and a 7-3 victory in the B game. Individual stats were not available by press time.
