Spickard Fall Festival Set For Sept. 11-13

Spickard residents are gearing up for their annual fall festival activities, which get under way on Friday, Sept. 11 and continue through Sunday, Sept. 13.
Music, games and a parade are just some of the events scheduled for the festival, which takes place in the downtown area.
Exhibits such as quilts, needlework, fruits and vegetables, canned goods, crafts, fine arts, etc., can be entered for judging on Thursday, from 3 to 6 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Wise Community Center. The community center will also be the site for the “country store,” where homemade food items will be sold.
A balloon launch will kickoff activities at 1 p.m. on Friday, with children’s games to follow in the park at 1:30 p.m. Evening activities, also slated in the park, include a barbecue pork and beef supper at 6 o’clock, crowning of the festival royalty at 7 o’clock and entertainment by the Silverado band at 8 o’clock. There will also be a 50-50 drawing at 10 o’clock.
Saturday’s schedule gets under way with a 5K run, which starts with registration at 7:30 a.m. and the run at 8 a.m. The children’s parade for youth ages 12 and under will travel down Main Street at 10:30 a.m., followed by the adult parade at 11 a.m. Entries for both parades should be lined up no later than 10 a.m., with the judging for the adult parade taking place at 10:30 a.m.
Carnival games will be held in the city park, beginning at 1 p.m. The baby show is at 3:30 p.m. for babies age newborn to three years. Registration is at 3 p.m.
Exhibits will be available for viewing at the Wise Building from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., at which time they can be picked up.
A barbecue meal, sponsored by Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri and the festival board, gets under way at 5 p.m. in the city park. That will be followed by the cake walk at 6 p.m. and music at 7 p.m. by the Red Brush Band of Milan and Newtown. A drawing for prizes is slated at 9 p.m., followed by the 50/50 drawing at 10 p.m.
ATV races are scheduled for Sunday at the fairgrounds. Registration is at 10 a.m. and the race is at noon. The festival concludes at 7 p.m. with community church services and a singspiration in the city park, with refreshments after the service.
Persons are asked to bring lawnchairs for seating at park events. In case of rain, the park events will be moved to the Spickard School.
