Tom Brown, professor emeritus at NCMC, related tales about the building and its namesake, the late Ed Geyer. Brown taught political science, American history and journalism at both Trenton High School and NCMC before his retirement as an instructor at NCMC in the 1990s. He told stories of both students and faculty members and expressed his admiration for Geyer, who retired as dean at the college in 1979. He referred to Geyer as “friendly”, “clever”, “witty”, “wise” and “a great educator.”
Kristi Cross, marketing director at NCMC, also gave a brief update about the “Preserving the Past, Focusing on the Future” campaign to raise money for the Geyer Hall restoration project. She noted that the campaign has received good support and that one of the ways to donate is to participate in the “90 for 90” campaign, donating $90 in recognition of the college’s 90th anniversary, which is this year. Lapel pins recognizing those contributors will be presented to the donors.
During the business meeting, members were reminded about the fish fry on Sept. 12, with sign up sheets being passed around for workers and desserts. It was announced that a meeting of the Parade Committee will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10 at the office of Preferred Family Healthcare.
Paul Harris Fellows were presented to members Kristi Urich and Don Purkapile by President Steve Taylor. The fellows were presented in recognition of their involvement in Rotary International. This is the third Paul Harris for Purkapile and the first for Mrs. Urich.
Next week’s program chairman is John Anthony, whose program will be on the Special Olympics.
