The Grundy R-5 Lady Panthers faced off with Pattonsburg on Monday night in Galt in what was both the season and HDC opener for the Lady Panthers.
Grundy yielded three runs in the first inning and it was all downhill from there as Pattonsburg plated four more in the second, five in the third, two in the fourth and seven in the fifth. The Lady Panthers meanwhile were unable to score in the five-inning contest, collecting just four hits.
Grundy helped Pattonsburg out a bit as Lady Panthers’ pitchers walked 10 batters and hit two more.
At the plate, Grundy was led by Emma Novak, who had half of the Lady Panthers’ hit total, going two-for-two. Matana Munday was one-for-two and Emily Milazzo was one-for-three. All four Lady Panther hits were singles.
“Overall we did some good things,” Lady Panthers’ first-year Head Coach Jessica Parsons said. “Our pitching needs to become more consistent and we need to get more confidence swinging the bat.”
Grundy established 0-1 records both overall and in the HDC with the loss. Both the Grundy girls’ and boys’ squads are at East Harrison tonight.
