Willard D. Johnson, an 88-year-old resident of Lineville, IA, died on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2014 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, IA.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville with Pastor Richard Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville.
Open visitation is under way at the funeral chapel, where the family visitation will be 6 to 7 o’clock tonight (Monday, Aug. 31, 2015)
Mr. Johnson was born on May 8, 1927 in Wayne County, the son George Oka and Iva Ellen McCarty Johnson. He was raised in Wayne and Decatur counties. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and left the U.S. from San Diego, CA on the destroyer USS Brister 327. He was in several countries before returning home.
After his discharge, he was returned to Creston, IA. He was married on Feb. 2, 1947 to Josephine Wilson.
He farmed and also worked as a gas station attendant, a truck driver and for the Decatur County Road Department. The couple moved to Lineville in January 1989 after he suffered a heart attack. The couple later resided in Corydon for two years before returning to Lineville in 1992, where they lived the remainder of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine of Lineville; one sister, Janet Ruth Stanford of Lubbock, TX; a sister-in-law, Madeline Wilson of Corydon, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Willard Johnson, Jr. in 1947; a sister, Haskell Johnson; and by a brother, Fred Johnson.
