Theresa Hunsaker, administrator of the Grundy County-Jewett Library, presented the program at Thursday’s meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club. Duane Urich was the program chairman.
Ms. Hunsaker told about the services offered through the library. In addition to regular books that can be checked out, the library has e-books and audio books as well as access to a lending library program that allows patrons to access books from other libraries in the state. A genealogy area is also part of the library, which Ms. Hunsaker notes gets much use by persons doing research on family history, etc. Microfilmed newspapers are located in that area, also providing information to those doing research.
The library is currently involved in a digitalization project in which all available Grundy County newspapers are being made available through the Internet. The project has recorded newspapers through 1986 and Ms. Hunsaker noted it has made research much easier for persons living out of the area. She said the project is to be completed this year, however, donations are still being accepted to help pay for the process, with about $7,000 still needed.
During the business meeting, it was announced that the District 6040 Conference will be held Oct. 16-17 in Kirksville and that the Rotary Leadership Institute will be on Sept. 12 in Chillicothe, which is also the same day as the Rotary Club fish fry. Phil Hoffman announced that the club’s exchange student, Maria, will be arriving in Missouri on Saturday. She will be staying with the Hoffmans as well as two other families while attending school during the year.
As part of the club’s efforts to secure a district grant to help with the Geyer Restoration Project, members were asked to assist with the NCMC Open House on Sept. 5. It was also announced that beginning next week, club meetings will be held in the First Christian Church Family Activity Center while the fellowship hall is being renovated.
Next week’s program chairman is Teresa Cross, who will talked about NCMC 90th anniversary celebration, including the open house.
