Trenton struggled off the bat, dropping all of the opening four singles matches. Claire Utley was defeated 8-3 and Hannah Farmer fell 8-4. Lauren Dolan was shut out 8-0 and Codi DeLong fell 8-2. Samantha Mihalovich got what would be Trenton’s lone win of the dual, coming in the number five singles match. Mihalovich topped her Lady Savage foe 8-6. Madison Searcy rounded out singles play with an 8-2 loss at number six.
Savannah swept doubles play, handing Utley and Farmer an 8-0 loss, Dolan and DeLong an 8-3 loss and Mihalovich and Searcy an 8-5 loss.
“Savannah was a solid team and their experience showed,” Lady Bulldogs’ Head Coach Bobbie Hainey said. “The girls were able to score some good points and we are going to keep working hard at practice on hitting with consistency and keeping the ball in play.”
With the loss, Trenton fell to 1-1 in duals this season. The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on Monday, beginning a week in which the Lady Bulldogs will be on the court all five days. Monday’s match-up is a home dual with Chillicothe. Action at the THS tennis courts is set to begin at 4 p.m.
Junior Varsity
Trenton’s junior varsity team fell to the Savannah JV 2-1. Three doubles matches were played with Trenton’s Latorrie Johnson and Alainey Fair combining for the Lady Bulldog JV’s only win, an 8-5 victory. Other matches saw Fair and Emma Gilham fall 6-2 and Elle Neal and Emily Bonta lose 6-1.
Trenton’s JV will also take on Chillicothe on Monday following the varsity matches.
